All Escape as St. Francis Old Main Burns to Ground

Another photograph from an unknown newspaper after the 1942 fire. Caption reads "Happy to be alive, these students and clerics at St. Francis College were among those who escaped when Old Main - the principal college building - was destroyed by fire early yesterday. After the awesome blaze, the structure looked like a blitzkrieged Stalingrad apartment, nothing but walls standing. Students were sent home and told to return in two weeks. Note cross still standing at left. Old Main was a Loretto landmark."
